"...significant improvements are certainly possible."

Here's what my horoscope was today:

You may not feel very lighthearted today as the Moon harshly aspects your key planet Saturn, turning your smile into a discouraging scowl. Fortunately, you have a choice to make. You can let the pressure get to you as you fearfully worry about something you cannot control. Or you can turn your frown into a determined grin, knowing that your positive attitude changes the nature of the game. Don't expect miracles, but significant improvements are certainly possible.

So, I hate horoscopes. I don't even check them because I think they're silly, and because they take your attention of what truly rules your life, and makes you feel that it's all in the alignment of the stars. phooey.

*but*

If you have any idea what's been going on in my life this week, you know that this horoscope fits me perfectly. On Wednesday, waiting for the first call, I was all antsy and anxious and couldn't sit still for cleaning and cooking and finding my passport. Last night, I was the opposite. Waiting for the second call, and I was nauseous and nervous and really upset.
~~ I think because it's sorta real now, ya know? As in, I might have to make a life-changing decision in the next few days/weeks...

The end.

I'm sharing my old postcards with you.

I have a wonderful collection that I would like to share with you.
I collect old postcards.
Preferably ones that have already been mailed.
Here are a few of them:

"He kissed me, and I know it was wrong,
For we were neither kith nor kin
But need a body do penance long
For such a tiny sin!"

Yes, it was actually mailed. Look at the stamp (one cent!).
Also, postmarked Feb 19, 1909. This postcard is over 100 years old.
Amazing.

The back of it says:
"Good-By
H.L.C.
will come to
see you again
sometime

727 White Grand gets
write to me. Colo."

And here's the front of that one from 1909.

This one is probably my favorite. It wasn't mailed, but
it says something fun on the back. I'll get to that.
First off, understand that the red parts of this
were added (painted in) by someone else.

Now, the back says:
"Heres what I painted
but I have not time to paint
like Bertha.
Irene"

And this one's just cute.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Someday, I want to frame them and put them all over my house. I also want to get a whole lot more. If you're ever out somewhere, look in antique stores for them. They're usually pretty cheap (these were between $0.75 and $1.50!). I'll even pay for shipping! Be on the lookout for me. Awesome. PS These make great Christmas/ Birthday/ Valentine's Day/ President's Day/ Thanksgiving/ Arbor Day/ Bosses Day gifts.

I'm just sayin'.

Ya know, Christmas is *just* around the corner...

... and if you're wondering what's on my wish list, here's the *beginning* of it :-)
A dog bed big enough for Bella.

Good kitchen utensils. Metal. Also (not pictured), a pepper grinder and salt shaker because Bella ate the one mom and dad got me last year at Christmas :-(

Wines. I've been craving wine lately. I don't know why.

A Burberry scarf. It's basically on my life-list to own "someday"...

Etsy wishful thinking

I love etsy... and I'm obviously super busy at work this afternoon, so I tore myself away for a while to do some window-shopping. Here's what I want.

I love that it's paisley. The end.

I would totally use this bag *all* the time if I owned it.

If this bag didn't cost $140, it would be my Christmas gift to Leann.

Like a scarf, since I love them, only cooler... maybe.

Beatrix Potter. Awesome.

They even sell homemade teas on there. Don't worry, they come packaged in convenient use bags.

I love yarn. This would go nicely in the newest scarf I'm making.
What the eff is that in the bottom right of this picture??

Same as above. I want cool yarns. Best? These are only about $10 each.

Thankful Thursday

Inspired by @mandisaofficial, here's a list of things I'm thankful for right now.

Coffee. Even when the first cup is at 11:07 am.
People who tell me that I put a smile on his/her face.
Scrubs on lab days, so that I can feel like I wear pajamas.
*Hot* showers.
Jimmy Needham. His songs have a way of tearing your heart open.
Other people heating up TV dinners that they don't like so I can eat without taking a lunch break.
No. 2 yellow pencils.
Friends who have relatively healthy babies.
Phone calls before 7:30 am just to say hi.
Twitter.
That there exists programs that could possibly take my house and save my credit.
Hand sanitizer, especially during cold and flu season.

One-Liners

I'm having heartburn from half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

I seriously heart coffee. Seriously.

Less than a month until Leann visits!!

Someone left a bottle of water on my desk. I drank it.

I found chocolate and now my day is brighter.

I want one week without rain.

My hands are a little dry.

Would you expect to keep your job if you were late on the 2nd and 3rd days? 40 mins late?

Rob Thomas' Her Diamonds is always on the radio. Unsure of how this makes me feel.

I have to get back to work now.

A little more about me.

I really like who I've become.

I'm now the kind of person who wears her pants at (well, near) my "natural waist", as compared to way too low. Additionally, I don't let the bottoms trail behind me. There is a way to be comfortable, not ruin new jeans, and not have high-waters. It's a great place when you find it.

I get star-struck when I'm in an elevator with the head of neurology at UTSW.

I'm excited when a surprise day trip isn't to go shopping, or to a concert, but rather is to visit a new church and see a certain Christian artist as the worship leader.

I don't know anything about Harry Potter. I'm perfectly content to keep it that way.

I can waste 30 minutes reading MLIA's on my phone (thanks, Leann...).

I love to cook. I love to try new recipes. I love to cook for other people and am really happy when they like it.

I use correct punctuation and spelling when I text, tweet, facebook, and email. I can't stand when people use "text-type" (shortened words, too many abbreviations), use too many exclamation points (!!!!!!!!!), TYPE ALL IN CAPS, oR tYpE lIkE tHiS. Serious. You're old enough to use a computer, and you know how to do it correctly-- now actually do it.

jimmy flippin' needham

I had the best weekend I've had in a long time. because i have the best boyfriend. he had a surprise for me this weekend, and it's honestly one of the nicest things anyone has done for me. evah. It all started when....

Boyfriend told me about a week and a half ago that we had plans for the 10th (saturday). all he would say was that we were driving south about 3½ hours, had to leave around 1pm, and would be back the same night. I really didn't have any idea what was going on, but i like surprises, so i didn't even question.

Then, the boy cracked. He told me what we were going to do right as we were in the car and headed south. we went to Fellowship of the Woodlands church because.....

Jimmy Needham. led. worship.

Ah-maze-ing.

Here's our trip in pictures:I bought a new scarf (*gasp*) and lip color for the event.

We found a Dairy Queen! Yaaay, peanut buster parfait!

To waste time, we stopped at Garden Ridge. I bought a fall candle and Leann's Christmas present.

Chris seriously made me pose for pictures in Garden Ridge. I love him.

A good picture of us in the beautifully manicured front gardens of the church.

More of the pretty church.

I was too chicken to take a picture in church, so Chris did it for me :-)
That's Jimmy Needham. This song made me almost cry, and I'm still trying to find it somewhere online.

Don't you like my flowers? :-)

For some reason, I've been loving my boyfriend more lately. For a few weeks, I kinda felt like I was dating my brother... but not in the weird way, in the comfortable way. But, we've been dating too short a time to be so comfortable. So it seems. Anyways, I guess it started around Thursday, when it's like a light switch went off, and I basically realized how much he means to me. I mean, the guy will do ANYthing for me. Before I ask, usually. So, i had a very warm-and-fuzzy weekend. Friday he took me on a date. A real one! I love when we go on real dates. He brought me flowers and circus cookies (you know, animal crackers with the white and pink frosting?). My faves.

We took the train to West End and ate at Spaghetti Warehouse, where (funny) we sat in a train in the middle of the restaurant and the other tables. Nice. We watched a guy on the street make amazing pictures using just spray paint and sheets of magazine. I don't mean he did, like, graffiti. I mean, pictures of space and the pyramids and stuff like that. Awesome pictures. He used fire to make textures and dry it funny. It was really amazing to watch. Then we watched a funk band, followed by a college marching band. All-in-all, a great night.
